Paul David Process Ltd

Paul David did not think he’d be enrolling as a Swansea University student as he passed his sixtieth birthday, but that’s exactly what happened when he signed up to METaL’s online Manufacturing Technology course.

A Chartered Chemical Engineer with 30 years’ experience working for major companies in the oil refining, petrochemical and industrial gas sectors, Paul has been running his process engineering consultancy Paul David Process Ltd since 2012.

Based in West Wales, PDP Ltd offers a wide range of services including process design support, and guidance on process safety. Paul heard about the METaL Project through LinkedIn.

Taking advantage of the current offering of free training for Welsh industry, Paul enrolled on the Manufacturing Technology course.

The course covers many aspects of manufacturing, from material structure and properties, to surface treatments, all the way to trends in manufacturing and the factories of the future.

The flexible online format means that students can learn at their own pace, with help on hand from course tutors if required.

Paul said “I’ve just finished the course and very much enjoyed it. It is a wide ranging, high level review of processes from casting to forging, machining to extruding; from sintering to welding and heat treatment to surface treatments.”

“Chemical engineers are, by nature, collectors of knowledge from other people’s disciplines. I’m sure some of the information I picked up on this course is going to come in useful soon.”

Paul has now enrolled on a second METaL module, Introduction to Materials Engineering.

Dr Farzaneh Hafezi, course tutor, said “I’m so pleased that Paul enjoyed this course, and feels it will be useful for his business. It’s also great to hear that completing the Manufacturing Technology has encouraged Paul to enrol on further modules! I think Paul’s experience demonstrates that upskilling is worthwhile at any stage of your career.”
