This course is designed to provide an introduction into the manufacture and repair of advanced composite materials. The course uses well established methods as practiced in the Aerospace industry as well as other sectors. It begins with an introduction into advanced composites materials including the resins & fibres in normal use and moves into the H&S of composite materials including safe handling. Following this introduction, the course moves into the more practical applications of composite manufacture and repair, to include initial layup manufacture and layup repair. The transferable skills taught in this course are generic in nature and are applicable across a wide field of advanced composite materials, materials now in common use throughout many different sectors and industries.

Who should attend?

The course is aimed at Technical personnel, Engineers and Managers who wish to gain a more comprehensive understanding of Advanced Composite Materials along with improving their fundamental knowledge of composite manufacture and repair techniques. The course will also include current information on Tooling and Mechanical Fasteners commonly used with composites as well as information on the Non-Destructive Testing of Composites after manufacture to confirm integrity.

  • Intro to Advanced Composites - Resins & Fibres – Multi-Ply Asymmetric Panels
  • H&S of Advanced Composite Materials & Safe Handling of Composites
  • Adhesive Bonding of Composites, Tooling and Mechanical Fasteners
  • NDT Methods for Inspection of Advanced Composites
Day Two
  • Glass/Carbon/Kevlar Fabric with Foam/Nomex Core Panel Layup & Cure
Day Three
  • Composite Repair Design Considerations
  • Core Panel – Damage & Scarf Removal – Fill Cavity & Repair Skin
