We are pleased to announce that for a limited time we are now able to offer our online courses FREE of charge.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions we are unable to teach face-to-face at the moment, however, we do have our Corrosion and Coatings Technology course available on line with more courses in development. Focus On: Introduction to CAD 2D & 3D

Dr Daryn Taylor BEng EngD CEng MIMechE
29 May 2018

The design, engineering and product development software which engineers and manufacturers rely on is rapidly changing. The latest views from industry leaders are predicting five major trends which are affecting engineering and manufacturing across the globe:

  1. Autonomous Hardware
  2. Additive Manufacturing
  3. Agile Product Design
  4. Competitive Information Flow
  5. Expectations of the Millennial Workforce

In order to begin addressing these changes, the METaL Project, together with Professional Engineer Dr Daryn Taylor, have developed a three day Computer Aided Design course. “Introduction to CAD” is aimed at technical personnel, engineers and managers who wish to gain a deeper understanding of Agile Product Design and improve their fundamental knowledge of modern CAD, including the relationships between 3D Modelling & 2D Engineering Drawing.

Although the “Introduction to CAD” course is itself CAD neutral, it uses Onshape as the primary system. Participation will provide an introduction to modern Computer Aided Design, in which delegates acquire increased knowledge of 3D & 2D design, including the strategies and principles of “Resilient Modelling Strategy“, which is well known to be applicable and relevant to all modern parametric CAD systems.

Course Programme

  • Navigating the 3D Environment
  • Foundation of Sketch Based Modelling
  • Introduction to RMS & the Four Functions
  • Using Dimensions & Constraints
  • Making an Accurate Part
  • Introduction to Engineering Drawing
  • 2 Assignments using RMS based Modelling Methods
  • Benefits of Cloud-Based CAD
  • CAD Modelling - Best Practices

Employees from a diverse range of engineering companies have already completed the course and have provided very positive feedback and excellent reviews.

Due to the initial success of the course, Daryn and the METaL team are very much looking forward to teaching additional CAD courses to the next generation of engineers.
