Technocamps is a STEM outreach programme based in all Welsh Universities, with its HQ in the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Swansea University.
Our mission is to identify and address shortcomings in computing skills amongst pupils, teachers, and professionals in Wales. In order to do this, we provide training and activities covering all aspects of engagement, curriculum reform, policy and practice, teacher training and professional development.
Our ultimate goal is to increase young people’s engagement with STEM subjects. We work with secondary schools through our STEM Enrichment programme and primary schools through our Playground Computing programme. We also provide training and professional development for teachers to prepare them for the challenges of delivering in an increasingly technical and dynamic environment.
Our commitment to computing education also extends beyond the school environment. We provide digital upskilling opportunities to people in employment, as well as various opportunities for lifelong learning. Our fully funded Degree Apprenticeship programme offers individuals the opportunity to ‘earn and learn’ by working towards a degree while in full-time employment. We also work with businesses and industry to create opportunities to ensure that the digital pipeline is generated locally, helping to provide high quality jobs and support the economy of Wales.
Our current workshops, webinars and training courses are all being delivered virtually and are entirely free, thanks to funding support from the Welsh Government.
